After a flood ruined the finishes of this condo we were given a clean slate to create a new floor plan and create strategic storage for the owners. Focusing primarily on the design for a new kitchen, which was relocated from the center to rear of the apartment, dramatically improved the flow and created a more efficient layout, increasing the size of the living and dining spaces in the 1,000 sq ft apartment. We made a series of strategic upgrades, including a terracotta floor tile that instantly imparts a more earthy, organic character to the home. Custom cream cabinetry and oak millwork with round pulls and curved edges softens the rectangular living area. We were tasked to create an inviting, materially-rich space that took inspiration from our clients travels, from the deep greens and terracotta seen in Mexico City to the open, loft-like apartments they admired during visits to Beirut. The warm woods of the many mid century homes in their hometown of Los Angeles also informed the design.
